German Whitelist Shows No Online Casino Licensees

The German state of Sachsen-Anhalt has published its “whitelist” of licensed operators under the country’s Fourth State Treaty on Gambling: featuring no licensees whatsoever for online slots, table games or poker.

The list includes a number of approved online sports betting licensees, after the vertical was approved by the country’s Third State Treaty. These 35 licensees include Entain’s Bwin brand, four subsidiaries of Tipico, Gauselmann Group’s Cashpoint brand, Bet365 and Tipwin. It also includes new names such as Chilling Cheetah – which operates the Chillybet brand – and Ruleo – which operates Mybet.de.

However, the list of approved operators for online slots, online poker and online table games are all blank.

Online casino games in the market were permitted when the state treaty (GlüNeuRStv) came into effect on 1 July this year, though online table games may only be operated by lotteries and land-based casinos.

However, the new treaty came with a number of restrictions. This includes a €1000 per month spending cap and a €1 per spin stake cap on slot games, as well as a 5.3% tax on turnover.

Operators have been highly critical of many of these rules. Germany’s sports betting association, the Deutsche Sportwettenverband (DSWV), argued that the tax rate would “jeopardise the success of the new gambling regulation in Germany.”

Neccton enjoys further success in Germany with NOVO INTERACTIVE

December 13, 2022

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Yet another huge name from the online gambling arena has signed up to join the Neccton family, as NOVO INTERACTIVE with its second platform admiralbet.de becomes the latest operator to bring the company’s mentor software on board for both Anti–Money Laundering (AML) and Responsible Gambling (RG).

NOVO INTERACTIVE is the online arm of the LÖWEN-Group, which is itself a subsidiary of gaming giant NOVOMATIC. NOVO INTERACTIVE brings all of LÖWEN-Group’s online gambling business under its umbrella, with top slot website novoline.de alongside AdmiralBet’s sportsbook offering. Both brands have received a license to offer online virtual slots.

With Neccton’s mentor, NOVO INTERACTIVE customers are protected with best-in-class software that monitors player behaviour in real time and communicates with both player and operator should negative play patterns emerge.

mentor looks for a raft of potential markers in player behaviour, including a significant increase in deposit frequency, to keep players safe from harm. The software contacts the player directly when required, and alerts the operator to the issue so further care can be administered if needed.

NOVO INTERACTIVE is also harnessing the software’s Anti-Money Laundering module, which is compliant with European requirements, plus Ontario and many other jurisdictions worldwide. Neccton’s rule engine is preconfigured for each specific market and allows for individual customizations by a customer’s AML or RG officers.

The software – which has become the market leader in Europe and is used by most of the top iGaming operators – also features modules for Fraud and aCRM, so it is a one-stop solution for many of the most pressing needs facing operators today.

mentor has been developed using the research of Dr Michael Auer, who acts as director and head of development for Neccton. His research spans more than 15 years and tens of academic publications, all of which have established him as one of the world’s leading experts in the field.

Dr Auer welcomed NOVO INTERACTIVE, saying: “It’s wonderful to welcome a business like novoline.de and admiralbet.de into our roster of amazing customers. We are now protecting almost all of Germany’s online gamblers and that gives us immense pride.”

Safer gambling solution provider Mindway AI adds strong strategic competencies and operator experience to its Board of Directors.

Award-winning Danish software company Mindway AI welcomes advisor and professional board member Britt Boeskov to their Board of Directors. Boeskov has a long, impressive track record of leadership roles at Kindred and Better Collective, and Mindway AI’s new board member hereby brings strong strategic competencies to the company as it continues its international growth journey.

“We are very pleased that Britt Boeskov has joined Mindway AI’s Board of Directors. Her deep experience from the industry, not least her 17 years at Kindred Group in various leadership roles, is a huge asset for Mindway AI as we continue to develop and grow our business. In 2023, we will be expanding our organization and growing our markets both inside and outside of Europe, and we will furthermore be focused on strengthening our industry partnerships. Britt Boeskov will no doubt be a valued advisor in this process,” says Rasmus Kjaergaard, CEO of Mindway AI.

Mindway AI’s Board of Directors now consists of Chairman of the board and Better Collective CFO Flemming Pedersen; Mindway AI founder and Professor Kim Mouridsen; former Director General at the Danish Gambling Authority Birgitte Sand from Birgitte Sand & Associates; independent iGaming consultant and founder of B2B communities such as Gaming in Holland Willem van Oort; and its latest member Britt Boeskov.

“I’m excited to join Mindway AI’s Board of Directors and offer my experience with strategy and sustainable gambling implementation from my many years in the industry. The sustainable gambling agenda is really important to me personally, and I’m a firm believer in the power of data and technology for prevention, detection and intervention purposes. I’ve seen firsthand how many resources it takes for operators to build and maintain detection systems of their own, so I see great potential in Mindway AI’s innovative solutions as effective tools for the industry in their safer gambling efforts”, says Britt Boeskov.

Britt Boeskov is an independent advisor and professional board member. Her last corporate role was as SVP for Strategy at Better Collective, and she previously spent 17 years at Kindred Group in various executive roles. Boeskov holds a master’s degree from Copenhagen Business School in Intercultural communication and management and lives in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Casino Lugano Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

December 12, 2022

Reading Time: 2 minutes

At the end of November, Casino Lugano celebrated 20 years of gaming, entertainment, hospitality, catering and continuous growth in Ticino.

Paolo Sanvido, CEO of the casino, said: “For more than 20 years our casino has shared with the city a long journey characterised by strong emotions and successes, always discovering novelties. Since 2002 we have been committed to continuously innovating the winning formula and enriching the range of experiences for all our customers, providing advanced and complete solutions, as well as always guaranteeing the highest quality.”

Emanuele Stauffer, Chairman of the Board of Directors, added: “We want to continue on this path of growth and improvement in the future, to identify and satisfy new and higher customer expectations, with the same innate commitment that has always pervaded the spirit of Casino Lugano. For this reason, we want to celebrate this success, expressing the esteem and affection we have towards our customers and partners who have contributed to making this venture possible.”

Michele Foletti, Mayor of Lugano, added: “The bond that unites Lugano and its casino is great and is destined to be further strengthened on the basis of our many shared visions. Just like the city, our casino is always ready for new challenges and oriented towards constant renewal. It has been able to recover after the complicated period of the pandemic, investing and developing new projects (not least the online gaming platform swiss4win.ch). Its traditional tourist attraction and commitment to the territory are also undeniable. Lugano would not be the same without its casino.”

The first gaming room in Lugano dates back to 1804, the games were: “biribisso”, “bassetta” and craps.

In 1885 the Lugano Theatre was founded, a building used for music and theatrical performances, dance parties and shows. In 1912 it obtained the licence for small games and in 1922 the name was changed to Casino Kursaal. In 1970 the Municipality became the largest shareholder; 22 years later slot machines were introduced in addition to the traditional boule.

In 1993 “big games” were introduced in Switzerland and the gaming house obtained the type “A” license until, on 29th November 2002, Casinò Lugano SA opened its doors. The current shareholding of Casinò Lugano is 67% by the Municipality, 29% by Casinos Austria Swiss and the rest by some small private shareholders. 2014 saw the first restyling and 2018, after the closure of the nearby Casinò Campione, saw the second and final stages of this extraordinary history dating back 200 years.

Since 2020 Casinò Lugano has expanded its gaming offer, improved its building to become even more comfortable and from March 2021 went officially online with its game platform swiss4win.ch.
